Paediatric Ophthalmology in Delhi
Consultation scheduling, insurance coordination and post-op follow-up handled by a dedicated care coordinator.
Early detection matters. Amblyopia (lazy eye) is treatable - but only before age 7 - 10. A comprehensive paediatric eye exam takes 30 minutes and can prevent lifelong vision impairment.
Signs your child may need an eye evaluation
Sitting very close to the TV or screen
Holding books unusually close to their face
One eye visibly turning in or out (squint)
Covering or closing one eye to see better
Tilting or turning the head to look at objects
Frequent eye rubbing, watering or discharge
Difficulty reading, avoidance of near tasks
White or unusual reflex in flash photographs
If your child shows any of these signs - or even if they don't - a routine eye exam is recommended at 6 months, 3 years and before school entry.
Paediatric eye conditions managed at Eye Veda
Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Reduced vision in one eye that doesn't improve with glasses alone. Patching or atropine therapy retrains the brain to use the weaker eye - effective before age 7 - 10.
Strabismus (Squint)
Misalignment of the eyes (esotropia, exotropia, hypertropia). Treated with prism glasses, patching, botulinum toxin or corrective surgery.
Childhood Myopia
Rapidly progressing short-sightedness in school-age children. We offer myopia control protocols - low-dose atropine drops and MiSight/orthokeratology lenses - to slow axial length growth.
Congenital Cataract
A clouding of the lens present at birth that must be identified and treated urgently to prevent permanent amblyopia. Surgery + optical rehabilitation within the first weeks of life.
Paediatric Glaucoma
Elevated intraocular pressure damaging the optic nerve in children. Often presents with a large eye (buphthalmos), photophobia and tearing. Requires urgent surgical intervention.
Refractive Errors
Myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism in children - accurately measured with cycloplegic refraction. Glasses or contact lenses prescribed and monitored for change.
Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction
Blocked tear duct causing persistent watering and discharge from birth. Most resolve with massage; probing is performed if blockage persists beyond 12 months.
Retinopathy of Prematurity
Abnormal retinal vessel development in premature infants. Screened and treated with laser photocoagulation or anti-VEGF injections within strict time windows.
How Eye Veda treats children's eye conditions
Cycloplegic Refraction
Eye drops to temporarily paralyse the focusing muscle, enabling accurate measurement of the child's true refractive error - essential before prescribing glasses.
Amblyopia Therapy
Customised patching schedules (2 - 6 hours/day) or atropine penalisation drops to stimulate the weaker eye. Digital apps may supplement formal patching.
Myopia Control
Low-dose atropine (0.01 - 0.05%), orthokeratology lenses or MiSight daily contact lenses to slow myopia progression in children aged 6 - 14.
Squint Surgery
Recession and resection of extraocular muscles to correct the angle of deviation. Day surgery under general anaesthesia. Rapid recovery; normal schooling within a week.
Congenital Cataract Surgery
Lens removal with or without IOL implantation depending on age. Immediately followed by optical rehabilitation (contact lenses or glasses) and amblyopia therapy.
NLD Probing & Syringing
A fine probe is passed through the nasolacrimal duct under brief sedation to relieve blockage. Performed as a day procedure; immediate improvement in most cases.
Is your child's power increasing every year?
Childhood myopia that progresses rapidly increases the lifetime risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Eye Veda's myopia control clinic uses evidence-based strategies - low-dose atropine (0.01 - 0.05%), orthokeratology night lenses, and MiSight daily lenses - to slow axial eye growth and protect your child's long-term vision.

Vision & acuity testing
Age-appropriate charts (Lea symbols, Snellen, Cardiff cards for pre-verbal children) to measure each eye's vision independently.
Cover test & motility
Detecting squint, assessing extraocular muscle balance and checking for abnormal head posture.
Cycloplegic refraction
Drops to relax accommodation and reveal the true refractive error - essential for accurate spectacle prescriptions in children.
Anterior segment & posterior segment
Slit lamp examination and dilated fundus examination to rule out congenital anomalies, optic disc changes and retinal pathology.
Discussion & plan
A clear explanation of findings, the recommended treatment plan, follow-up schedule, and next steps - communicated to both parent and child.
